Victoria Ground
The Victoria Ground was the home ground of Stoke City F.C. from 1878. The club played there for an unbroken period of 119 years until it moved to its new ground at the Britannia Stadium in 1997.[1] At the time of its demolition it was thought to be the oldest operational football league ground in the world. Britannia Stadium The Britannia Stadium is a football stadium in Stoke-on-Trent, England. It is the home of Stoke City Football Club. The club had played at the Victoria Ground until 1997 and the move was the brainchild of then-Chief Executive Jez Moxey.[2] The club's manager at this time was Chic Bates. The stadium holds 28,383 supporters, with the highest attendance being recorded for the sell out fixture against Everton in their FA Cup 3rd Round tie in 2002.[3] The first goal in the stadium was scored by Graham Kavanagh for Stoke in a league cup game against Rochdale.[4] Stoke-on-Trent Stoke-on-Trent ( pronunciation (help·info); often abbreviated to Stoke) is a city in Staffordshire, England, which forms a linear conurbation almost 12 miles (19 km) long, with an area of 36 square miles (93 km2). Together with the Borough of Newcastle-under-Lyme and Kidsgrove, Stoke forms the The Potteries Urban Area. This, together with the rural Staffordshire Moorlands area, forms North Staffordshire, which in 2001, had a population of 457,165. Information by Wikipedia.com
